Our Record of Success
Our European asset base comprises over 5,000 vehicles, with a combined
value of over €6 billion. We have invested more than €4.8
billion in new rolling stock and procured more than €500 million
in refurbishment of existing trains.
Milestone investments in our domestic British business include:
- Orders exceeding €1 billion for Siemens Desiro commuter
trains for the South West Trains network into London
- €1 billion investment in fifty-three Alstom Pendolino high-speed
tilting trains for use by Virgin Rail on the West Coast Mainline
between London, Birmingham and Glasgow
- Two hundred and eighty diesel freight locomotives for English,
Welsh & Scottish Railway, the UK’s largest rail freight
operator, a capital investment of €500 million
- A €45 million investment in the Merseyrail fleet of electric
multiple units, including refurbished interiors and improved performance
from engineering modifications
- €160 million project to re-engine and upgrade thirty-six
diesel power cars for our High Speed Trains operated by GNER and
First Great Western
- €28 million investment in Chiltern Railways’ fleet,
including interior re-fitting, air conditioning retrofit and reliability
enhancements
Internationally, our record includes:
- Acquisition of more than two hundred freight locomotives for
Angel Trains Cargo, Europe’s first and still largest specialist
traction lessor; approximately two thirds are diesel locomotives
from Vossloh and one third are electric locomotives from Bombardier’s
Traxx family
- Over €100 million invested in regional diesel multiple
units for DSB and Arriva Tøg, both operating in the Danish
market
- Pioneering leases of rolling stock to the national railways
of Denmark, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Switzerland
- Purchase and placement of twelve multi-voltage multi-system
locomotives to run on the HSL Zuid line between Amsterdam and
Brussels, including Europe’s first in service application
of ERTMS
- Refurbishment and re-lease of used Bombardier and Siemens DMUs
between various regional operators in Germany
- Key supplier of lease traction to railways in opening markets
such as France, Italy, Spain, Nordic Regions and Central and Eastern
European countries
- Total fleet of passenger trains in excess of 170 units, including
both DMUs and EMUs, worth about € 400 million
