Procurement

As an operating lessor, Angel Trains is heavily reliant on a relatively small number of industry suppliers. Train manufacturers, vehicle mainenance providers, technical consultancies and vehicle movements companies comprise the main source of supply to the business.

We have a small but expert procurement team, engaged in the purchase of a wide range of goods and services but in particular the heavy overhaul of our passenger fleets. The procurement team is also instrumental in driving our supplier development programme.

Angel Trains is committed to working with suppliers on long-term relationships to deliver quality and timely products/services to market at an affordable price. We have developed and implemented robust processes which are Railway Industry Supplier Assurance Scheme (RISAS) approved in order to manage our supply base.

RISAS will help ensure that suppliers of safety critical products to the railway indstry have robust systems and processes, and the necessary competence, resources and procedures in place, thus contributing to the the overall safety of the railway. RISAS will also provide savings to the rail industry, including Angel Trains, by reducing duplication in the auditing and assesment of suppliers of safety critical materials and services to the vehicle and component overhaul market.

In 2009, we became the first ROSCO to gain approval under the scheme and following two reassessments now hold a certificate valid until 2015. We will continue to support the scheme's roll-out by direct involvement in the RISAS board and also by supporting the RISAS vision of becoming universally recognised as the UK rail sector's most effective and effcient method of assuring the industry's most critical supply chains by 2014. This is an objective that will require cross-industry support.
